My poem MEMORIAL has been published in Bowery Gothic! See the poem here.
This was a lot of fun to write. The poet Bill Collins, at the Kauai Writers Conference in 2023, suggested that poets look into the “voids” between things and actions for inspiration. So what’s the biggest void of all? The world with me, of course (ha). So I considered what void would actually be left when I die, and that was the inspiration for MEMORIAL.
The structure of MEMORIAL is also interesting. It comprises six stanzas in two columns of three each, with big gutters (voids) between each. Once I had the meter polished, I noticed something cool: you can read those six stanzas in any of the 15 possible arrangements and it (kinda) makes sense in all of them!
